3rd Media Review

The Vow

Based on a true story (which itself might have made a great documentary), The Vow is a showcase for the splendid acting talent of Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum, under the direction of Michael Sucsy (the feature version of Grey Gardens). The story is deceptively simple: Happy young married couple Paige (McAdams) and Leo (Tatum) are, well, happy. Then a car accident puts Paige into a life-threatening coma, and upon awakening, she finds she has lost the previous five years of memories--including of being married to, or ever in love with, her beloved Leo. With lesser actors or with a more heavy-handed director, The Vow might have been predictable, melodramatic, or flat--and yet, the talents of the two stars, and the crisp, light-handed direction, make The Vow an enjoyable, deeply affecting love story. McAdams is as winning as always, reminiscent of her early work in The Notebook, and here, as a brunette, channeling a young Jennifer Garner. But it's Tatum on whose shoulders The Vow must succeed, and he is a revelation. His persona as a tough guy's guy is perfect here, as a "softer" actor would have led The Vow straight into Lifetime Movie Network territory. The viewer relates to Leo, including his obvious frustration, discomfort, and even moments of terror. Sam Neill and Jessica Lange (who glowed in Sucsy's Grey Gardens) make memorable supporting appearances. But it's McAdams and especially Tatum who make The Vow the believable, delicate, and loving journey it is.

The Descendants (2011)

From Alexander Payne, the creator of the Oscar-winning Sideways, set in Hawaii, The Descendants is a sometimes humorous, sometimes tragic journey for Matt King (George Clooney) an indifferent husband and father of two girls, who is forced to re-examine his past and embrace his future when his wife suffers a boating accident off of Waikiki. The event leads to a rapprochement with his young daughters while Matt wrestles with a decision to sell the family's land handed down from Hawaiian royalty and missionaries.

Fox's new TV show - Touch

If you liked the show "Heroes" then you'll definitely like this show. Touch is from creator and writer Tim Kring (“Heroes,” “Crossing Jordan”). The pilot episode aired January 25th, called 1+1=3. It revolves around a child named Jake, a mute, and his father, Martin Bohm, a widowed baggage handler at New York's JFK Airport. The show is based on a chinese fable called "The red thread." In this story it is believed that a red thread is loosely looped around the ankles of all the people that are supposed to come in contact with each other over the course of a lifetime. This thread can stretch and bend, but it cannot break. The series got picked up for a full season with 13 episodes and will re-premier on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 9PM.

The start of "The wonderful world.."

CMM 101, that's where this starts. Freshly out of the Army after 5 years and my first semester in college. Not gonna lie - i'm totally out of my element and slightly intimidated at times. Guess it'll take a bit to get use to.. But in the meantime, since my blog will focus on my interests and my life, I'll tell you about myself:

I'm 23. From Nanticoke, Pennsylvania. I played soccer for 6 years, was a cheerleader, and was on the swim team in high school. Digital Media Design major. I plan on moving to LA and working in film or television after I get my bachelor's degree. I was an Information Technology Specialist in the Army (basically Geek Squad for the army). I love technology. Lived in South Korea for two years. Proud parent of two absolutely adorable Yorkshire Terriers. (Romeo, Left. Buddha, Right.)

I'm a typical girl in the sense that I'm infatuated with beauty, makeup, fashion, and love. I adore the theatre and acting. Musically I love a lot of different genres but my favorite's are Country and Alternative Rock. I love to laugh. I'm very passionate about movies and TV shows.

Some of my favorite movies are: What Dreams May Come, The Notebook, Nell, Donnie Darko, Chicago, Across The Universe, Bridesmaids, Coneheads, I'm Not There, Bring It On, 10 Things I Hate About You, ALMOST anything Will Ferrell is in, & most John Hughes movies.

Some of my favorite TV shows are: Inside The Actors Studio, Glee, Entourage, America's Next Top Model, The Rachel Zoe Project, Weeds, Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, Chelsea Lately, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Tosh.0, & Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.

Some of my other interests are: Photography (especially beauty and fashion photography), dance, the beach, fireworks, fishing, ATV's, the Philadelphia Phillies, concerts, bonfires, wine tasting, traveling, amusement parks & water parks, nature, cooking, & interior design.
